Turkey will not allow Russia to use Armenian airports to combat terrorism

In the case of the continuation of hostilities in Syria, Russia will need the so-called airfields, and this may require airports of Iran and Iraq. The use of some infrastructures in Armenia may also be considered, — says Sergey Minasyan, Armenian political analyst, Head of the Department of Political Studies of Caucasus Institute.

Armenia borders with Turkey, a NATO member, and, in all probability, Ankara will not allow Russian planes to use its airspace for flights from Armenia, — mentions Mikhayil Khodaryonok, Editor-in-chief of the «Aerospace defense» magazine.

«Actually, the use of the airfield network in Armenia is possible, but it is associated with additional difficulties, since the flight range of Russian transport and military aircrafts is enough to follow on track avoiding intermediate landings,» — notes Mikhayil Khodaryonok in his interview to RUSARMINFO. Note: Russia has been carrying out a military operation in Syria to eliminate the terrorist groups of the “Islamic State” (the organization activities are banned in Russia). Up to this day, Russia has completed 1752 sorties and destroyed more than 2,600 objects of IS.
