CSTO Secretary General visits Armenia: terrorism issue is on the agenda

CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha pays a three-day visit to Armenia. In the period from January 26 to 29 the Secretary General will meet with President of Armenia, Chairman of the CSTO Collective Security Council in 2016, Serzh Sargsyan, as well as a number of heads of the ministries of Armenia. The trip to Armenia Nikolay Bordyuzha is relevant and timely initiated, — says Ivan Konovalov, head of the Center for Strategic Conjectures, Russian military expert. “Armenia is in the vicinity of the zone of military actions in Syria. Russia and Armenia as CSTO members are to coordinate approaches to this situation,” told RUSARMINFO Ivan Konovalov. The problem of global terrorism, according to him, will be among the top issues on the agenda of the meeting.

“In this global crisis, when terrorism occurs, these countries should firmly support the contacts between the CSTO and develop them in other directions. Today, there’s a high potential that the conflict threat will spread from the Middle East through Afghanistan and Central Asian countries,” stressed the expert. According to Ivan Konovalov, the Nagorno-Karabakh issue will not remain without attention during the visit. “In accordance to the announcements of Turkey that it intends to solve somehow the Karabakh issue, Armenia and Russia should be careful. The provocative statements have not yet grown into actions, but we must be ready for everything,” concluded the military expert. The Collective Security Treaty Organization aims at strengthening peace, international and regional security and stability of the participating countries. The CSTO members are: Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.
