Armenia may obtain a visa-free regime with EU

Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs in his interview to «Kommersant» mentioned that Armenia might obtain a visa-free regime with the EU. «We offer an opportunity of visa liberalization for all partners. We have a certain progress in relation to Armenia and Azerbaijan. If Armenia and Azerbaijan want to, and all the criterions are met, then I see no reason not to give them the same opportunity, » said the head of the Latvian Foreign Ministry. Speaking about the possible signing of a new agreement on cooperation between the EU and Armenia, he mentioned the following: «The issue was discussed in the scopes of the EU-Armenia Council in January:  we are ready to start negotiations with Armenia on a new treaty which is the draft of the Association Agreement, based on those developments that have taken place in Armenia since 2013. But the fundamental difference is that now Armenia is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union. And we will seek ways to ensure that Armenia’s obligations as an EEU member won’t contradict the development of relations with the European Union in certain sectors. «
