Turkey supports ISIL

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced yesterday that Ankara would never allow creating a new Kurdish state on its southern borders. They would make every possible effort not to allow this plan to be carried out ever, whatever the issue price would be.

Erdogan’s statement was made on the background of significant progress of the Kurdish military forces in the battle against militants of the terrorist group «Islamic State» in the north of Syria.

In an interview to RUSARMINFO over the latest developments in this region Yevgeny Satanovsky, Middle East Institute President, introduced his analysis.

«The disintegration of Syria is already a reality, and the formation of Kurdistan is also a reality. Absolutely none cares whether the international community recognizes it or does not,» said the expert.

He noted that the last attack of the “ISIL” fighters on the territory of northern Syria, in particular, in Cobán, was carried out from the territory of Turkey, which in itself was unique.

«Erdogan may deny it, but it’s a fact. This confirms the fact that Turkey not officially, but still maintains ISIL. It is logical that if the Kurds are fighting against the «Islamic state», while Turkey is behind the ISIL formations, it will certainly be against the Kurds, not only because of the Turkish-Kurdish relations,» said Satanovsky.

Recall that on Saturday Kurdish troops expelled extremists from the Syrian city of Cobán (Kobanî) in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo. Currently, the city is completely under the control of the Kurds. In the city of Hasakah, also located in the north of Syria, between the Syrian troops and Kurdish armed groups, has been reached an agreement, according to which the Kurdish administration will manage «those areas of Hasakah, which Kurdish defense forces will liberate from the extremists.» In these areas, the Kurds will «set a flag on public buildings instead of the official Syrian flag.»

In his turn, the Head of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, Ruben Safrastyan has told RUSARMINFO that Turkey is struggling to prevent the emergence of an independent Kurdish state on its border. At the same time, he is confident that sooner or later the Kurds will establish their autono

my in northern Syria, and in the future — even an independent state. Safrastyan has unde

rlined that Turkey’s main strategic goal is to overthrow the government of Bashar al-Assad.

«Turkey has contributed and continues to contribute to the Islamic state, as ISIL, first of all, is fighting against Assad’s government,» said Ruben Safrastyan.

Recall that in September of 2014 Cobán became the scene of heavy fights between Kurds and the IS militants who sought to crush the Kurdish enclave, and take control of an important border crossing. However, the Kurds managed to keep control of these territories, on which can be created the Kurdish state.
