Possible nonsense: Russia is not going to erect a radar station in Azerbaijan

In his article, published a day before on the official website of the “Zvezda” tv channel, journalist Viktor Sokirko assures that Russia is going to construct a new radar station in 2017 in the territory of Azerbaijan.

“The construction of the “Voronezh” radar station continues not only in Russia (Pechora and Murmansk). It’s supposed that the construction in Azerbaijan will start in 2017, instead of the Daryal radar station in Gabala passed to Baku. The new station will be completely at the disposal of Russia, in addition to the radar station in Armavir, covering all the territories non available from the Armavir station,” as it’s mentioned in the article.

Chief editor of the “National Defense” magazine Igor Korotchenko in his interview to RUSARMINFO has mentioned that it’s not appropriate to comment on such “nonsense”, but he’s sure that the information about the construction of a new Russian radar station doesn’t correspond to the reality.

“Russia is not going to construct any military objects in Azerbaijan. Especially, when it concerns the radar station on missile warning. All the new radar stations are constructed in the Russian Federation. After the closure of the “Gabala” early warning radar station of missile attacks, operated by Russia, we will not build anything in Azerbaijan,” says the military expert.

Note: “Voronezh” radar station is designed to detect and track ballistic and cruise missiles, and other aerodynamic facilities. “Voronezh” is erected for 18-20 months (for comparison – its predecessors “Volga” and “Daryal” were erected for 5-9 years).
