One thousand more Armenians appeared in the Kaliningrad region

Since the beginning of 2015, 800 citizens of Armenia have moved to the Kaliningrad region of Russia in the framework of the program of resettlement of compatriots. This was announced by Galina Menyailenko, the acting head of Department on work with compatriots of the Kaliningrad region. In general, from 2006 to September 1 of 2015, about 14 thousand participants of the state program moved to the Kaliningrad region. Together with their family members the number of resettled people reached up to 30476. Kazakhstan leads the list of the countries by the number of resettled citizens (36.6%). It’s followed by Kyrgyzstan (11.7%), Uzbekistan (8.8%) and Armenia (5.9%). Ukraine is on the fifth place in this list (4.3%). According to the Armenian community of the Kaliningrad region, from 2013 to 2015 in the framework of the state program of resettlement of compatriots 450 Armenian families have moved to the Kaliningrad region.

«Assuming that each family on average has four persons, it turns out that for two years in the Kaliningrad region moved 1800 citizens of Armenia. While for eight years (from 2006 to 2013 year) in the Kaliningrad region were settled three and a half thousand citizens of Armenia,» in his interview to RUSARMINFO has said Felix Gevorgyan, the head of the Armenian community of the Kaliningrad region.

The increase flow of Armenian immigrants in the Kaliningrad region is associated with increased tolerance of local residents, but also with the fact that the Armenians have chosen Kaliningrad, based on its geographical position. They share the mistaken belief that if the region borders with the European Union, it will be easier to move there from the territory of Kaliningrad, says Felix Gevorgyan. Note: The total number of residents of Armenian origin in the Kaliningrad region, according to different calculations, varies from 15 to 16 thousand people.
