CSTO Chiefs of Staff supported Russia and learned about ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan

On December 9, Moscow hosted the meeting of the Military Committee of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) under the chairmanship of Chief of General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Yuri Khachaturov. The agenda included three questions: — Assessment of the military-political situation in the territories of the CSTO member states; — The situation in Syria, Russia’s role and actions; — Prospects for the development of the CSTO.

Permanent Representative of the Armenian Armed Forces in the representation of the Republic of Armenia in the CSTO Arakel Martikyan in his interview to RUSARMINFO has reported that the representatives from all the CSTO countries fully and unanimously supported the position of Russia in retaliation against Turkey, caused as a result of the downing of the Russian military plane by the Turkish Armed Forces.

During the meeting, Chief of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces presented all the actions of the Russian armed forces in Syria and gave an assessment of the interaction with other members of the coalition. According to the source, all the chiefs of staff of the CSTO member states expressed their support in regards to Russia’s decisions.

«During the discussion of the first agenda issue, Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Yuri Khachaturov talked about the situation in the Caucasus region. Khachaturov also informed his colleagues that during the year Azerbaijan has repeatedly and deliberately violated the cease-fire, using large-caliber weapons,» informed Araqel Martikyan.

The participants of the meeting agreed that it’s necessary to make every effort to prevent further such actions.
